The Fighting Camels jumped out to an early 3-1 lead against Jacksonville on Saturday, but ultimately fell in the season opener, 14-8. Paige White led the team with four goals, while Emily Wilson added a goal and two assists.
 
Kendall Wilson and Hailey Kohlmann led the charge defensively with four caused turnovers and three ground balls, respectively. They played in front of true freshman Adria Welsh, who earned the start in goal.
 
Series History
This is the 10^th meeting between CU and GWU and first since Campbell moved to the CAA. The Camels hold a commanding 8-1 advantage, but GWU's lone win came in the 2022 Big South Tournament.
 
Scouting the Opponents
The Runnin' Bulldogs are coming off a 15-14 defeat at the hands of Austin Peay. Freshman midfielder Maddie Tredway scored five goals and added an assist in her collegiate debut. Austin Peay saved the potential game-tying shot with 30 seconds remaining to earn the win.
 
Gardner-Webb was picked to finish sixth in the Big South Preseason Poll. Midfielder Emma Duchscherer and goalkeeper Emma Anderson return as all-conference players from last year.
 
Preseason Accolades
Fifth-year defender Hailey Kohlmann was selected as an honorable mention on the All-CAA Preseason Team. She was first on the team last year with 37 ground balls and fifth in the CAA in ground balls per game.
 
Looking for Difference Makers
The Camels are looking to replace two program greats with the departure of Rasa Welsh and Sam Bischoff. Welsh is third all-time in career assists, and Bischoff is second all-time in career goals. Both players ended their careers top five in career points.
 
Head Coach Dawn Easley
Coach Easley begins her 13^th season at the helm in Buies Creek. She owns a record of 86-114 at Campbell and a 144-145 overall record.
