BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Campbell softball team dropped both of its games Saturday on day two of the Campbell Invitational, falling to Miami (Ohio) and Iowa.
GAME #1 – vs. Miami (OH)
Campbell was held scoreless in a tight pitchers' duel, falling 1–0 to Miami (Ohio).
The game's lone run came in the top of the fourth inning when the RedHawks strung together three consecutive singles to plate a run. Junior
Kasey Wolfe kept Miami in check otherwise, allowing four hits and one run over 6.1 innings with three strikeouts.
The Camels managed five hits but could not push a run across. Sophomore
Hannah Cornetto led the way with a 2-for-3 performance, while graduate student
Amber DeSena, freshman
Kylie Specht and senior
Charlie Montgomery each added singles.
Campbell threatened in the first and seventh innings, putting runners in scoring position both times, but Miami escaped without allowing a run.
GAME #2 – vs. Iowa
Campbell jumped out to an early lead but could not contain Iowa's offense in a 10–4 loss to close the evening.
The Camels scored three runs in the bottom of the first, highlighted by a solo home run from senior
Allyiah Swiney and back-to-back RBI doubles from senior
Alyssa Armijo and Montgomery. Campbell added another run in the fourth when Armijo doubled and later scored on an RBI single from Specht to take a 4–2 lead.
Iowa responded with a six-run fifth inning, capitalizing on a combination of hits and Campbell defensive miscues to swing momentum. The Hawkeyes added two more runs in the sixth.
Armijo paced the Campbell offense with a 2-for-3 showing that included two doubles and an RBI. Swiney added her third home run of the season.
In the circle, freshman
Katelyn Hubley worked four innings in the start, and Wolfe threw three innings in relief.
