Softball finishes Campbell Invitational with win over Radford

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Campbell softball team closed the Campbell Invitational with a 13-5, six-inning win over Radford on Sunday afternoon.

The Camels answered Radford's three-run first inning with four runs in the bottom of the frame, highlighted by a three-run double from freshman Kylie Specht.

Campbell used a combination of hits, walks, hit batters and wild pitches to score four runs and take an 8-3 advantage in the third. In the fifth, Campbell added to its cushion with three singles and a throwing error to push the lead to 11-5. Graduate student Amber DeSena ended the game in the sixth with a two-RBI double to enforce the run rule.

Specht led Campbell with four RBIs, going 2-for-3 with a double and a walk. DeSena finished 2-for-5 with two RBIs, while sophomores Emma Slutzah and Haley Krebs each drove in a run. Senior Allyiah Swiney scored twice and reached base four times with three walks and a single.

In the circle, freshman Katelyn Hubley earned the win after working 5.1 innings, allowing three unearned runs on six hits while striking out five. Junior Ryleigh Bennett pitched 0.2 of an inning in relief before Hubley returned to record the final out.

Campbell totaled 12 hits, was hit by four pitches and drew eight walks, while stealing five bases in the victory.
