Camels head to Daytona for Spring Break

Sam Ryder Intercollegiate at LPGA International Hills Course

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell will compete in a full team event for the first time this semester next week in the Sam Ryder Intercollegiate, hosted by Stetson at the Arthur Hills Course at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.

After Sunday's practice round the 54-hole event opens Monday with the first two rounds on the par-72, 6984-yard layout.  Tuesday's final round begins with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start.

Campbell was originally set to open its spring schedule Feb. 2-3 with the Battle at Briar's Creek, but that event was cancelled due to winter weather conditions in the South Carolina Low Country.

Live scoring will be available at Scoreboard.clippd.com

Thirteen teams make up this year's Sam Ryder field.  No. 75 UTEP, host Stetson (95) and Florida Atlantic (99) are among the nation's top 100 ranked teams.  Campbell enters the event at No. 139 nationally.  The field also features No. 122 Baylor of the Big 12 Conference.

Campbell collected a pair of top-three finishes among five tournaments in the fall campaign.  The Camels were runner-up at the Furman Intercollegiate and earned a third-place showing in the Bash at the Boro.

Last year with winds gusting to 30 miles per hour at the Hills Course, only one golfer in the 88-man field finished below par.  Erik Johansson led the Camels with a sixth-place finish (71-74-75—220), while Joachim Larsen Tegner placed seventh (76-71-74—221).  Benjamin Killingstad (70-76-81—227) tied for 21st and Logan Graf T76 (75-81-89—245).  Campbell (291-302-308—901) finished sixth, one stroke behind UCF and FAU, and one in front of UNCW, in a 15-team field.

The Course – LPGA International Arthur Hills Course (Par 72, 6984 yards)
Since 1997, LPGA International's Arthur Hills Signature Course has been a favorite among locals and visitors alike. The Golf Digest 4-Star rated par-72 layout is a classic at 6,984 yards.  Hills used a superb natural setting to create a masterpiece in playability and variety. It features natural wetlands, narrow pine corridors, small greens and strategically placed water hazards.

The Coach: After spending seven seasons as assistant and associate head coach, Matt Moot is in his first year as head coach at his alma mater. During his time on the Camel staff, Moot has helped lead Campbell to five NCAA post-season trips, 12 tournament titles and three conference crowns.  Moot helped develop the 2017, 2019 (Jesper Svensson), 2018 (Ray Kraivixien) and 2021 (Pontus Nyholm) Big South Conference golfers of the year as well as four-straight league rookies of the year in Henric Bjelke (2022), Tim Holmberg (2023), Erik Johansson (CAA 2024) and Benjamin Killingstad (CAA 2025).  During his playing career (2007-11) at Campbell, Moot compiled 11 top-10 individual finishes and was a two-time Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar.  He competed in the 2009 and 2011 NCAA regionals.
