Softball downs Charleston in five-inning series-opening win

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Campbell softball team secured a five-inning run-rule victory Friday night, defeating the College of Charleston 10-2 in the opening game of the weekend series.

Campbell's offense erupted in the first inning to take a 5-0 lead and never looked back. Sophomore Hannah Cornetto delivered an RBI single to score senior Alyssa Armijo for the game's first run. Freshman Kylie Specht followed with another RBI single, and junior Madison Ford cleared the bases with a three-run double to cap the inning.

The Camels added another run in the bottom of the second when senior Allyiah Swiney launched her fourth home run of the season.

Charleston responded with two runs in the top of the third, but Campbell's defense held firm, allowing just one more hit the rest of the game.

After a scoreless fourth inning, the Camels ended the game in the bottom of the fifth. Specht delivered the first home run of her career, and graduate student Amber DeSena followed with a two-run triple to secure the run-rule victory.

Freshman Katelyn Hubley earned her eighth career win in the circle, striking out five. She threw 56 strikes on 96 pitches.

Campbell finished with 10 runs on 10 hits. Swiney and Specht's home runs marked the Camels' first multi-home run game since April 13, 2025. Three Camels recorded multiple hits and RBIs. DeSena went 2 for 3 with a run scored and two RBIs, while Specht finished 2 for 3 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
