BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Campbell softball team closed its home weekend CAA series against the College of Charleston with two narrow losses Saturday and Sunday at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
Senior
Allyiah Swiney led the Camels at the plate, going 4-for-6 across the two outings with a three-run home run and five RBIs. Sophomore
Haley Krebs was steady as well, finishing 4-for-7 with three RBIs.
The Camels move to 4–2 in conference play.
SATURDAY – Campbell 3, Charleston 4
On Alumni Day, Charleston struck first with a run in the top of the opening inning. Campbell answered in the bottom half when sophomore
Hannah Cornetto doubled to drive in a run.
Campbell kept the pressure on over the next few innings. Senior
Charlie Montgomery delivered an RBI single down the left-field line in the third to give the Camels the lead, and senior
Alyssa Armijo followed with an RBI single of her own to extend the advantage to two.
Charleston responded with a three-run fifth inning, using a pair of triples to reclaim the lead. Campbell loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh but could not push across the tying run.
Krebs finished 3-for-3, while Armijo went 2-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored, a hit-by-pitch and a stolen base.

Kasey Wolfe and
Emily Allegood split the outing, combining for four strikeouts.
SUNDAY – Campbell 9, Charleston 10
The teams returned Sunday for their first CAA rubber match of the season.
Charleston opened with six unanswered runs across the first two innings, matching its total from the first two games of the series combined.
Campbell answered in the bottom of the second. Freshman
Kylie Specht and sophomore
Emma Slutzah led off with singles, and after junior
Madison Ford walked to load the bases, Krebs punched a ball through the right side to clear the bases and cut the deficit to three.
After a scoreless third, Charleston added a run in the fourth. In the bottom half, following an Armijo walk and a single from graduate student
Amber DeSena, Swiney launched her second home run of the weekend to pull Campbell within one.
Charleston countered again with a three-run fifth inning. Campbell held the Cougars scoreless over the final two frames but could not complete the comeback.
In the sixth, sophomore
Janel Day drove in a run on a groundout with the bases loaded, and Slutzah followed with a two-run single to left-center to make it a one-run game.
Campbell brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh but was retired in order.
Swiney finished 2-for-2 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBIs. Slutzah went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs. In the circle, Allegood started before freshman
Katelyn Hubley closed the game, recording three strikeouts.
UP NEXT
Campbell heads to Columbus, Ohio, for the Ohio State Tournament. The Camels will face Louisville and host Ohio State twice each. Campbell opens with a Friday doubleheader, taking on Louisville at noon before a 5 p.m. matchup with Ohio State. The Camels meet the Buckeyes again Saturday at 5 p.m. and close the weekend Sunday at 10 a.m. against Louisville.
