Camels top Paladins

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Campbell extended its winning streak to six with an 11-9 win over Furman, Monday night at Paladin Stadium.

Shae Insinga scored five goals for Furman (2-2), but seven Campbell (6-1) players found the back of the net, led by Emma Penkunas's first career hat trick.

The Camels overcame a slow start to take a 6-3 lead into halftime. The Camels did not score in the first quarter thanks to five saves from Furman's Sam Melville.

Campbell eventually flipped the script, and five different Camels found the net in the second frame. Penkunas scored twice, and CU outshot Furman 19-9 in the first half. Penkunas's second goal came just three seconds before halftime.

Emily Wilson and Caroline Laur continued the momentum into the third quarter, scoring in the first five minutes to extend the lead to five and force a Furman timeout.

Campbell dominated the draw circle by securing 19 draw controls, including all 12 in the second half, to Furman's three. CU outshot the Paladins, 33-20, and put seven more efforts on frame.

Insinga scored two more for Furman in the third, and Wilson matched that with her second of the frame to put the Camels ahead, 9-5, with 15 minutes to play.

Penkunas completed her hat trick with 6:10 left in the game, slotting one past the Paladin goalkeeper. Bridget Ahlgren scored her second of the day in the fourth quarter as well to help CU hold off a potential comeback bid by the home team.

Led by Kendall Wilson, the Camels caused 11 of FU's 19 turnovers and picked up 20 ground balls. Hailey Kohlman caused two turnovers, and Adria Welsh added four saves between the pipes.
