SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Campbell concluded its road swing with its seventh win in a row, defeating Wofford 13-11, Wednesday afternoon at Gibbs Stadium.
Caroline Laur led the Camels (7-1) with four goals, and
McKenna Duncan contributed two goals and a career-high five assists. The Terriers (1-5) had four players score two goals, with Carlie Cutinella added two assists to her stat line.
The teams played an even first quarter, with Campbell holding onto a 3-2 lead.
Caroline Laur and
Drew Watkins scored back-to-back goals, and
Tatiana Gouger scored her third goal of the season with 40 seconds to go before the second quarter.
The Fighting Camels opened a five-goal lead with a 4-0 run to start the second quarter.
Emma Jankowiak scored just 20 seconds into the frame.
Paige White scored just a few minutes later before Duncan recorded the next two goals in the run. She also assisted the previous two goals, making her presence felt on the attacking end.
Duncan collected her third assist of the period on a goal from Laur at the 3:10 mark, and the Camels entered halftime with an 8-4 lead.
Wofford cut into its deficit with a 4-2 third quarter.
Emma Penkunas and Jankowiak rippled the net for the Camels in the frame, while four different Terriers scored to trail, 10-8, with 15 minutes to play.
CU opened the fourth quarter with a 3-0 run to push the lead back up to five with 11 minutes to play. Laur scored another two goals to add to her total, and
Emily Wilson scored from a free position opportunity for her first goal of the afternoon.
The Terriers answered with a 3-0 run of their own to cut the lead back down to two with three minutes to go.
Wofford won the ensuing draw control, but
Grace Haskell forced a critical turnover with 2:30 left in the game to give possession back to Campbell. Due to multiple fouls by Wofford and shot clock resets, the Camels maintained possession until the final 10 seconds.
