BUIES CREEK, N.C. – For the third-straight year, Campbell will compete in the Cutter Creek Intercollegiate at Snow Hill, N.C. This weekend, the Camels will enter the event as the defending champions.
In addition, the Camels are coming off the first career head coaching win for
Matt Moot, Mar. 9-10 at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate.
Benjamin Killingstad finished second and
Joachim Larsen Tegner tied for fourth individually and Campbell concluded the 54-hole tournament 10-under par (278-277-275—830), two shots better than runner-up UAB (832) on the par-70 Palmetto Golf Club layout, the second-oldest golf course in the nation.
Killingstad (70-64-69—203, -7) followed a collegiate career-low 6-under 64 with a 1-under 69 in the final round. His birdie on the 18th hole sealed the team win for the Camels as well as his best collegiate finish.
This weekend, instead of the customary five-player lineup, the Cutter Creek event includes six golfers on each squad with the top four scores counting to the team total.
No. 104 Campbell is the second highest-ranked team in the 14-school field, following CAA rival Elon (73) and ahead of Harvard (129) and ECU (153).
Campbell has finished among the top three teams in four of its last five tournaments. Campbell opened the spring season with a third-place showing at the Sam Ryder Intercollegiate (Mar. 2-3) before winning one week later at Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, S.C.
Last year at Cutter Creek, Campbell won the team title as four Camels finished among the top 13 individuals.
Henric Bjelke tied for second individually at 7-under par, Killingstad tied for fourth (-6), Larsen Tegner was sixth (-4) and
Erik Johansson finished T13 (E) for the Camels, who claimed their first team title since the 2021 Big South Conference Championship.
CU finished 22-under as a team (277-281-284—842) and registered its lowest 54-hole score of the season while claiming an 8-stroke victory margin over host East Carolina (284-281-285—850).
Four Camels from last year's title-winning squad will compete in this season's Cutter Creek event. Returnees Killingstad, Johansson, Larsen Tegner and
Logan Graf will be joined by freshmen
Adrian Bergqvist and
William Sundborn in the lineup.
Campbell will be paired with Harvard and Temple for Friday's first round and start from the first tee at 8:51 a.m.
