Hubley delivers in 10-Inning win as Camels take series opener over Elon

ELON, N.C. – Freshman Katelyn Hubley delivered a career outing as Campbell battled through 10 innings to earn a 3-1 series-opening win over Elon on Friday afternoon at Hunt Softball Park.

Elon struck first with an RBI double in the third to take a 1–0 lead. Campbell answered in the fourth when senior Allyiah Swiney doubled and brought home freshman Kylie Specht, who reached on a Phoenix error. The double moved Swiney into a tie for seventh all-time in program history with 36.

Campbell threatened again in the sixth, loading the bases on an error, a single from graduate student Amber DeSena and a walk, but couldn't push a run across. The Camels put another runner in scoring position in the seventh, but a strong throw from right field ended the inning and kept the game tied.

Hubley and the Campbell defense continued to quiet the Phoenix, sending the game into extras. Both teams went down in order in the eighth, and although sophomore Hannah Cornetto singled to open the ninth, the Camels remained scoreless.

Hubley struck out two in the bottom half to force a tenth inning, where Campbell finally broke through. Senior Charlie Montgomery led off with a single to extend her hitting streak to 23 games, followed by walks drawn by Specht and Swiney to load the bases. Junior Madison Ford then delivered the decisive swing, lining a two-run single into left to give Campbell a 3-1 lead. The Camels sealed the win with a double play in the bottom of the tenth.

Six different Camels recorded hits. DeSena went 2-for-4, Swiney added an RBI double, and Ford drove in two with the game-winning hit.

Hubley was dominant in the circle, allowing just one hit and one earned run across 10 innings. She faced 33 batters, threw 124 pitches and tallied eight strikeouts, including three in extra innings.
