ELON, N.C. – The Campbell softball team recorded its fourth shutout of the season with a 12-0, six-inning win over Elon at Hunt Softball Park.
Both teams were scoreless through the first three innings before Campbell broke through in the fourth. Sophomore
Hannah Cornetto blasted a three-run home run over the left-field wall to open the scoring.
The Camels added three more runs in the fifth. Senior
Charlie Montgomery drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, and senior
Allyiah Swiney followed with a two-run home run.
Campbell put the game away in the sixth, scoring six runs on two hits while sending 12 batters to the plate. Freshman
Kylie Specht drove in a run on a fielder's choice. Swiney added an RBI single, and junior
Madison Ford followed with an RBI single to center. Senior
Megan Leon and junior
Devin Davis drew consecutive bases-loaded walks to cap the scoring.
Swiney led Campbell at the plate, going 3 for 4 with four RBIs, two runs scored and a home run. Ford and junior
Haley Krebs each added two hits and two runs scored, with Ford also recording a double and an RBI.
In the circle, junior
Kasey Wolfe earned the shutout. Wolfe collected a season-high nine strikeouts, the second-highest total of her career. She allowed four hits over six innings, all singles, and threw 77 pitches, 48 for strikes, against 24 batters to earn her fifth win of the season.
