Softball shuts out Hampton 10-0 to open CAA play

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Campbell softball team opened CAA play with a 10-0, six-inning shutout victory over Hampton on Friday afternoon.

The Camels scored in five of the game's six innings and received strong performances in the circle from freshman Katelyn Hubley and junior Cassiti Baroni.

Campbell plated two runs in the first inning without recording a hit, capitalizing on two walks, two hit batters and a pair of wild pitches. The Camels added two more in the second sparked by back-to-back singles to leadoff the inning by sophomore Haley Krebs and senior Alyssa Armijo.

Armijo added a double and Krebs scored another in the fourth. Campbell pushed the lead to 7–0 in the fifth on RBI groundouts from junior Madison Ford and Krebs. The Camels capped the scoring with a three‑run sixth inning.

Krebs finished 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, while Armijo went 2-for-3 with two runs and a double. Senior Allyiah Swiney reached base three times and scored twice, and graduate student Amber DeSena added two RBIs.

Hubley tossed five scoreless innings, allowing four hits while striking out six to earn her seventh career win. Baroni struck out two in a perfect sixth inning to close out the game and complete the shutout.
