HEMPSTEAD, NY – The Campbell softball team opened its CAA series at Hofstra with a 10-1, five-inning victory Friday, scoring in every inning to control the game throughout.
The Camels struck first in the opening inning when senior
Charlie Montgomery delivered an RBI single to score senior
Allyiah Swiney.
Campbell extended its lead in the second. Sophomore
Hannah Cornetto and junior
Livie Davis each singled, and sophomore
Emma Slutzah's deep drive to left, combined with a Hofstra error, brought both runners home. Graduate student

The offense stayed hot in the third. Montgomery led off with a single, and walks to freshman
Kylie Specht and Cornetto loaded the bases. Davis drove in a run after being hit by a pitch, and Slutzah added a two-run single through the middle to push the lead to 7-0.
Campbell added another run in the fourth. Montgomery reached on an error, stole second, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch. Hofstra avoided the shutout with a sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the inning.
In the fifth, senior
Megan Leon entered as a pinch runner and, along with sophomore
Haley Krebs, executed a double steal that resulted in a run. Slutzah later doubled to center field to drive in the Camels' 10th run.
Three Campbell players recorded multiple hits. Slutzah went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and a double. DeSena finished 2 for 3 with an RBI, and Montgomery was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
