HEMPSTEAD, NY – The Campbell softball team secured a series win behind a career performance from freshman
Katelyn Hubley, defeating Hofstra 2-0 in the rubber match.
Hubley dominated in the circle, recording a career-high 11 strikeouts in a complete-game shutout against the top team in the CAA North. She threw 96 pitches, including 69 strikes, across seven innings. The freshman did not issue a walk and allowed just two hits, both singles. She recorded consecutive strikeouts in the third, fourth and fifth innings and added two more in the seventh, including the game's final out. The win marked the 14th of her career and the fourth shutout, all of which have come against CAA opponents.
The Camels scored both runs in the top of the third inning. Sophomore
Haley Krebs reached on a Hofstra error, followed by a single to right field from sophomore
Emma Slutzah. Graduate student
Amber DeSena then reached on a fielder's choice and stole second to put two runners in scoring position. With the help of another Hofstra error, senior
Allyiah Swiney drove a ball past the shortstop, bringing home Krebs and DeSena.
Slutzah led Campbell with two hits, while
Kylie Specht and
Madison Ford added one apiece.
The Camels move to 12-3 in CAA play, earning its fourth series win, and remain tied with UNCW for first place in the CAA South.
