BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Campbell softball team used late-game heroics to secure a 3-2 non-conference win over Queens on a walk-off double by junior
Janel Day.
Both teams struck early, trading solo home runs in the first inning. Sophomore
Emma Slutzah delivered the first home run of her career to even the score at 1-1.
The game remained tied until Queens broke through with a solo home run in the top of the sixth to take a 2-1 lead.
With a one-run deficit, the Camels entered the bottom of the seventh. Sophomore
Hannah Cornetto led off with a single, and junior
Livie Davis followed with her first double of the season to put two runners on. With one out, Day entered as a pinch hitter and battled through a 10-pitch at-bat before driving a ball through the right side for a two-run double, sealing the walk-off victory.
Campbell recorded seven hits, including four extra-base hits. Day, Davis and freshman
Kylie Specht each doubled, while Slutzah added the home run.
Slutzah finished 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Day went 1-for-1 with two RBIs.
