Camels 3 shots off lead after opening day at CAA

Potter 2nd, Ellems, Grimbrandt T3rd

SOUTHPORT, N.C. – With three players among the top three individuals, Campbell is in third place on the team leader board after Friday's opening round of the 2026 Coastal Athletic Association women's golf championship at The Reserve Club at St. James.

Jade Potter is second at even-par 72, while Taylah Ellems and Izabella Grimbrandt are tied for third at one-over 73.

Paced by individual leader Victory Levy's 3-under 69, second-seeded UNCW holds the first-round lead at 4-over 292, followed by top-seeded Charleston (294) and the fourth-seeded Camels (295).  Third seed Elon is fourth (308) in the nine-team field.

The 54-hole stroke play event continues Saturday and concludes Sunday to determine the CAA's automatic bid in the NCAA regional championships (May 11-13).  Campbell will be paired with UNCW and Charleston for the second round and start from the first tee Saturday at 9:20 a.m.  Live scoring is available at scoreboard.clippd.com.

Campbell entered the event ranked No. 149 in the nation, but the bottom three players in the lineup combined to play 2-over Friday on the 6022-yard Nicklaus design.  Potter's day included six birdies, while Ellems turned in her best score since last August in the season-opening Clemson Tiger Classic.

Grimbrandt made the turn Friday morning five over but made four birdies during a bogey-free back nine, where she played the last four holes 3-under.  Sophomore Fanni Gronlund shot a 5-over 77 and is tied for 18th and senior Isabella Hahne is T26 (81) in the 45-player field.

The Camels matched their best team total of the 2026 spring semester to stay in touch with No. 58 Charleston and No. 59 UNCW.  Friday's round marked Campbell's best in three CAA Championship starts at the Reserve Club since joining the league prior to the 2023-24 season.
