BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Campbell softball team fell to UNC Greensboro, 5-2, on Wednesday night at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
Both teams were held scoreless until the third inning, when Campbell struck first. Sophomore
Haley Krebs singled and stole second. Following a single from sophomore
Emma Slutzah, Slutzah drew a throw that allowed Krebs to steal home.
The Camels' defense held until UNC Greensboro scored four runs in the top of the sixth. Campbell responded with a run after two quick outs, loading the bases behind a triple from senior
Charlie Montgomery. Junior
Janel Day then drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in the Camels' second run.
UNC Greensboro added an insurance run in the top of the seventh, and Campbell went down in order in the bottom half.
Campbell totaled four hits on the night. Montgomery finished 1-for-2 with a triple and a run scored. Senior
Allyiah Swiney added a double, while Krebs recorded a hit and two stolen bases.
In the circle, juniors
Ryleigh Bennett and
Cassiti Baroni split time. Bennett struck out three over six innings, while Baroni pitched the seventh.

Campbell closes its home slate with a CAA series against Hampton. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday. All three games will be streamed on FloCollege. The teams previously met earlier this season, with Campbell sweeping the series in Virginia.
The Camels will celebrate their five seniors on Saturday, fans can also receive Campbell softball trading cards. Sunday is Kids in the Creek Day, where children can get autographs from Campbell players and run the bases. The weekend is presented by NC Farm Bureau in Lillington.
