Campbell closes home slate with Senior Day CAA series sweep

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Campbell softball team wrapped up its 2026 home slate with a pair of run-rule wins to sweep Hampton on Senior Day. The Camels honored its five seniors – Alyssa Armijo, Amber DeSena, Megan Leon, Charlie Montgomery and Allyiah Swiney

Across the doubleheader, Sophomore Haley Krebs went a perfect 5-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs scored, while freshman Kylie Specht drove in four runs on 3-for-6 hitting. Sophomore Emma Slutzah added four RBIs and three runs scored. DeSena finished 4-for-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Montgomery chipped in five hits and multiple runs scored, as Campbell totaled 22 hits and 18 runs on the day.

GAME 1 – Campbell 10, Hampton 2 (6 Inn.)

Campbell continued its offensive onslaught into the double-header, scoring in five of six innings and piling up 15 hits in a 10-2 win.

The Camels wasted no time setting the tone, plating two runs in the first inning behind an RBI single from Specht and aggressive baserunning that led to an early run on a passed ball. 

Campbell broke the game open in the second, scoring three runs. Krebs and junior Livie Davis reached to set the table before Slutzah lined a two-run single up the middle. DeSena followed with a sacrifice fly, extending the lead to 5-0.

Hampton answered with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, but could not slow Campbell's offense.

Krebs sparked the fourth inning with a single, and Slutzah delivered again with an RBI knock. DeSena followed with another run-scoring hit to push the lead to 7-1. In the fifth, Krebs drove in a run with her third hit of the day. In the sixth, Montgomery reached to set up Specht, who delivered again, lining a two-run single through the right side to end the game via run rule.

Slutzah and Specht each drove in three runs, while DeSena added two RBIs in a 2-for-2 performance. Krebs went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, and Montgomery also collected three hits. Campbell totaled five stolen bases.

Junior Kasey Wolfe earned the win, allowing two runs on seven hits over six innings with two strikeouts.

GAME 2 – Campbell 8, Hampton 0 (5 Inn.)

Campbell struck early and continued to find ways to score, shutting out Hampton 8-0 in five innings to bookend the Senior Weekend sweep.

The Camels dominated in the first inning, drawing six walks and turning them into four runs. Slutzah stole home for the frame's first run. Sophomore Hannah Cornetto and Leon each drew bases-loaded walks, and Krebs capped the inning with an RBI single to make it 4-0.

In the second, Swiney reached and came around to score on Specht's double, extending the lead to five. Campbell added to the lead in the third. Krebs singled and moved into scoring position before a hit from Slutzah drove her in. Moments later, Krebs and Slutzah executed back-to-back steals of home, stretching the advantage to 8-0. 

Freshman Katelyn Hubley handled the Pirates from the cirlce, limiting Hampton to four hits and striking out seven in a five-inning shutout. Krebs finished 2-for-2 with an RBI, while Specht added a double and an RBI. Slutzah scored twice and drove in a run as Campbell continued its expert baserunning with six stolen bases.

UP NEXT

Campbell travels to Wilmington, North Carolina, to face UNCW in the final series of the regular season with the CAA South title on the line. The series begins Thursday, April 30, at 6 p.m., followed by a 4 p.m. first pitch Friday and a 1 p.m. finale Sunday. All three games will be streamed on FloCollege.
