BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Behind a dominant performance from freshman
Katelyn Hubley in the circle, Campbell opened its final regular-season series with a 2-0 road shutout of UNCW.
The Camels scored both of their runs in the second frame. After drawing back-to-back leadoff walks, junior
Livie Davis laid down a sacrifice bunt to move runners into scoring position. Sophomore
Haley Krebs followed with a groundout to bring home the first run, and sophomore
Emma Slutzah added an RBI single to left to make it 2-0.
That would be all the offense needed as both teams were held scoreless the rest of the way in a pitcher's duel.
Hubley was spectacular, tossing a complete-game shutout. She allowed just two hits, walked three and struck out seven over seven innings. The shutout is Hubley's fifth of the season, all of which have come in CAA play.
Slutzah and graduate student
Amber DeSena each recorded two hits, with DeSena adding two stolen bases. Slutzah and Krebs drove in a run apiece.
With a win in either game of Friday's doubleheader, Campbell will clinch the inaugural CAA South Division title.
