WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Campbell softball team closed the regular season with a pair of losses Saturday, falling to UNCW in a doubleheader on the road.
Junior
Janel Day paced the Camels at the plate, going 3 for 6 across the two games. Freshman
Kylie Specht added a strong performance with two hits, two runs scored, an RBI, two walks and a stolen base.
With today's results, the Camels will advance to the CAA Tournament with play beginning on Wednesday, May 6.
GAME 1 – Campbell 8, UNCW 10
The opener featured a back-and-forth offensive battle, with UNCW pulling away late after surrendering an early lead.
The Seahawks jumped in front with four runs in the first inning before Campbell answered with three in the second. Senior
Charlie Montgomery and Specht opened the frame with walks and advanced on a passed ball, and after the bases were loaded, a wild pitch brought in the Camels' first run. Day followed with an RBI single, and sophomore
Emma Slutzah added another RBI to trim the deficit to 4-3.
UNCW pushed its lead to 5-3 in the bottom half, but Campbell responded with its biggest inning of the day in the third.
With two outs, the Camels strung together four consecutive hits, highlighted by a two-run double to right field from sophomore
Hannah Cornetto. Campbell took advantage of two UNCW errors later in the inning to plate two more runs, and Slutzah capped the surge with an RBI to give the Camels an 8-5 lead.
UNCW scored twice in the fifth and added three more runs in the sixth, finishing with five unanswered runs to secure the win.
Day recorded two hits in the game, while Slutzah and Cornetto each drove in two runs. Junior
Kasey Wolfe started in the circle, allowing six earned runs over five innings with two strikeouts. Freshman
Katelyn Hubley pitched the final inning, surrendering one earned run.
GAME 2 – Campbell 3, UNCW 5
Campbell struck first in the nightcap but could not overcome another big outing from the Seahawks offense.
The Camels opened the scoring in the second inning. Campbell loaded the bases with walks to set the table for Sophomore
Haley Krebs who delivered an RBI single to make it 1-0.
UNCW answered with four runs in the bottom half to take control.
Campbell cut into the deficit in the third. Graduate student
Amber DeSena led off with a double, and senior
Allyiah Swiney followed with a single. Specht drove in DeSena with an RBI single, and junior
Madison Ford added another RBI knock to bring the Camels within one, 4-3.
The Seahawks added an insurance run in the fourth and held Campbell scoreless the rest of the way. The Camels put two runners in scoring position in the seventh but were unable to comeback.
Swiney led the offense with two hits, including a double, and scored a run. Hubley tossed a complete game, allowing four earned runs over six innings with three strikeouts.

Campbell will head to Elon for the 2026 CAA Softball Championships at Hunt Softball Park on Wednesday, May 6. The Camels' seeding, matchup and game time will be determined after the conclusion of the CAA regular season tomorrow.
