CONWAY, S.C. – The Campbell softball team fell just short in its final road nonconference matchup of the season, dropping a 1-0 decision to Coastal Carolina on Tuesday night.
The Camels collected six hits but were unable to push a runner across. The Chanticleers scored the lone run of the game on a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning.
Campbell's defense responded and was outstanding the rest of the way, allowing no runs over the final six innings and not permitting a runner to advance to third base.
The infield turned three double plays for the first time since April 1, 2017. The third came on a diving stop by junior
Livie Davis, who flipped to sophomore
Haley Krebs for the force at second before Krebs fired to first to complete the double play and give Campbell a chance in the seventh inning.
Junior
Janel Day entered as a pinch hitter with two outs in the seventh and drove a ball to the center-field wall, but it was caught just short.
Senior
Charlie Montgomery was perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3.
Junior
Ryleigh Bennett took the loss in the circle, striking out three and allowing one earned run over four innings. Junior
Cassiti Baroni closed the game with two innings of relief and one strikeout.
