Camels set to host UNCW at Jim Perry Stadium

BUIES CREEK — Campbell is set to host UNCW for a pivotal CAA series beginning on Friday, April 10 at Jim Perry Stadium. 

First pitch of game one is slated for 6 p.m. followed by 3 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. All three games will be streamed on FloCollege.

On Saturday, the first 200 fans and 50 students will receive a free Campbell baseball T-shirt. Sunday is Kid's Day in the Creek with the opportunity for kids ages 12 and under to run the bases following the game. Stay tuned for updates on Friday Night Fireworks due to the statewide burn ban.

  • Campbell dropped its midweek matchup against UNCG 11-4 on Tuesday at JPS. 
  • The Camels out-hit the Spartans 10-6 but left 12 runners on base.

CENTURY MARK

  • Right-handed pitchers David Rossow and Zach Sabers eclipsed the 100 career strikeout mark this season. 
  • Rossow picked up his 100th career strikeout against William & Mary on Friday while Sabers picked his up against sixth-ranked North Carolina. 

DAVE'S DEALING

  • Redshirt Senior David Rossow leads the conference with six wins on the season. The right-hander ranks fifth in the country in wins. 
  • Rossow leads the staff with 2.97 ERA in a team-high 39.1 innings pitched. He has struck out a team-high 47 batters and is holding opponents to a .194 average. 
  • David Rossow pitched a complete game in Friday's seven inning victory, 12-2, over W&M and allowed two runs on five hits and struck out seven. 

CAA RANKS

  • Campbell pitching is second in the CAA posting a 4.63 ERA. 
  • The offense is fourth in the conference with a .275 batting average. 
  • Trent Rumley is third in on base percentage (.500) and in OPS (1.061). 
  • A trio of Camels ties for the lead with seven home runs. 
  • Joe Simpson is second in stolen bases (25) and has ties for most walks (29). 

CAROLINA ON MY MIND

    • Of the 55 games on the schedule, Campbell will stay in the state of North Carolina for 42 of those games. 
    • The Camels will compete against 11 of the 17 Division I opponents from North Carolina. 

CARLOS CONNECTS

  • Carlos Lugo leads the squad with 12 multi-hit games and has recorded a hit in 22 of 30 games played.
  • Lugo is batting .314 with a team-high 37 hits including a team-high eight doubles. He has collected 16 RBI and 21 runs scored. 
  • The left-handed utility made his first appearance on the mound against sixth-ranked North Carolina tossing two innings allowing one run on one hit and picked up three strikeouts in relief. 

HIT FOR THE CYCLE

  • Redshirt senior Jonah Oster hit for the cycle in Sunday's matchup at Towson. Oster opened with a home run in the third inning before registering a single in the fourth, double in the sixth, and completed history with a triple in the eighth. 
  • Oster becomes the first player to hit for the cycle since Dan Krause on Feb. 13, 1999 against Marshall.

TRIPLE THREAT

  • Joey Morton, Jonah Oster, and Jett Music have combined to hit 21 of the Camels 40 home runs. 
  • The trio have belted seven homers each and are in a four-way tie for the conference lead. 

RUN-RULE FASHION

  • Campbell currently has five run-rule victories over the last 15 conference games and outscored its opponents 155-67 in that frame. 

ONE HITTER

  • The Campbell pitching staff allowed just one hit against #16 Coastal Carolina (3/17) 
  • The staff allowed the fewest hits in a single game since the Camels 8-0 victory on May 15, 2021 against USC Upstate. 

SWIPING BAGS

  • Campbell currently ranks 14th in the country with 85 stolen bases on the season. 
  • Joe Simpson ranks fifth in the country in stolen bases with 25 in 26 attempts. 
  • Simpson tied the single game program record with five stolen bases against William & Mary (3/8).

EARLY AND OFTEN

  • Campbell has scored in the first inning in eleven games this season for a 10-1 record. 
  • The Camels have scored first in 14 games this season and are 13-1.
