Camels blank Longwood 2-0 in season opener

FARMVILLE, Va. — Campbell women's soccer opened its 2026 campaign with a 2-0 win over Longwood on Thursday night at Longwood Athletics Complex.

With the win, the Camels secure its first season opener since the 2018 season after defeating South Carolina State 4-1 on opening night.

Campbell (1-0) controlled much of the first half with eight shots and six corners. Avery Garrett found the back of the net in the 40 minute on a second chance opportunity for the Camels first goal of the season. Just two seconds prior, Laney Heafner looked to break through with a shot on goal but a quick save deflected the ball to Garrett for the score. 

Longwood (0-1) picked up the pace in the second half holding the advantage in shots (6) and corners (3) but Anais van Doesburg picked up five saves to limit the scoring opportunities. 

Ava Kanaar doubled the lead in the 82 minute after breaking free at the top of the box for the score, making it 2-0. Abby Connolly took control off the free kick for a direct pass to Kanaar to add her first assist of the season. 

In goal, Anaïs van Doesburg collected six saves on nine shots faced. Additionally, for the second consecutive season, van Doesburg has recorded a shutout marking the fourth of her career.

Campbell outshot the Lancers 13-9 while also leading the match with eight corners. Longwood was called offside five times to Campbell's four. 

The Camels are set for its home opener welcoming App State to Eakes Athletics Complex on Sunday, August 16. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. and will be streamed on FloCollege.
