Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Camels battle ECU to scoreless draw

GREENVILLE, N.C. — Campbell women's soccer battled East Carolina to a scoreless draw Thursday night at Johnson Stadium.

Campbell moves to 1-1-1 while East Carolina moves to 0-1-2 on the season.

It was a quiet first half for both squads as they played to a draw through the first 45 minutes of play which Campbell controlled much of the field. The Camels created several opportunities in the first leading with four shots in the half while the defense held ECU to one.

East Carolina picked up momentum in the second half with eight shots to Campbell's seven but the Camels defense held steady in the final 45 minutes.

Laney Heafner and Tyler Baughan looked to give the Camels the late lead with a pair of shots on goal in the second half but a save by the ECU goalkeeper kept things even at 0-0.

With about five minutes left in the match, Baughan found the back of the net but was eventually ruled offside after review to keep the Camels off the board.

Anais van Doesburg tallied her second shutout of the season after securing three saves on nine shots faced. Heafner led with three shots while Baughan registered a pair of shots on goal.

Campbell led the match with 11 shots with four on goal while East Carolina finished with nine shots and three on goal. The Camels held the advantage with five corners to the Pirates' four. Campbell was ruled offsides four times in the match.

Head coach Jeff Gross Quotable
"As I was talking with someone after the game who knows our program very well, it was remarked that was the best performance since I have been here. We have been grinding diligently the past two seasons and the players are understanding the foundation they are building. We do have to grow into using this type of performance and get the result. The players said as much after the game, unsolicited. I am proud of our program! Roll Humps!"

The Camels hit the road for a ranked matchup against #24 Clemson on Sunday at Historic Riggs Field. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast on ACCNX/ESPN+.
