BUIES CREEK, N.C. –
JJ Cowan totaled 185 yards and three touchdowns, leading Campbell over visiting North Carolina A&T 42-14 to open CAA play on Saturday at Barker-Lane Stadium.
The Camels (3-1, 1-0 CAA) remained unbeaten against FCS opponents, notching their first 3-1 start since 2019. Campbell also won its CAA opener for the first time since joining the league (joined the CAA in 2023). The Aggies, meanwhile, fell to 0-4 on the year (0-1 CAA).
Cowan, a junior from nearby Erwin, N.C., collected his third career 100-yard rushing game, running for 134 yards on 11 carries (12.2 yards per carry) with two touchdowns, adding two catches for 51 yards with another score.
Cowan's 90-yard touchdown run on the game's second play from scrimmage marked the longest TD run in Campbell's modern history (prev. Carl Smith, 82 yards, 10/31/09 vs. Morehead State).
Kamden Sixkiller tossed four touchdown passes and threw for 341 yards, connecting on 23-of-25 passes with an interception. Sixkiller is the first Campbell QB with 20 or more completions and two or fewer incompletions in a game.
Jyron Waiters also caught seven passes for a career-high 155 yards and two touchdowns.
Chinua Ezeigbo tacked on 77 yards receiving on six catches, both career-highs. 10 different Camels caught passes in the win.
With Cowan's 134 yards on the ground and Waiters' 155 through the air, Campbell posted a 100-yard rusher and receiver in the same game for the first time since 2019 (10/26/19 at Gardner-Webb).
Campbell led 28-7 at the half, rolling up a season-best 574 yards of total offense. The Camels have posted 500 or more yards in 3-of-4 games this season.
Kalen Villanueva led the Campbell defense with 10 tackles, including a sack, adding a pass breakup, while
DaVonyae Pettis tallied 2.0 sacks and
Vance Sheppert intercepted two Aggie passes. Campbell posted five sacks in total, another season-best, while logging two interceptions in the same game for the first time this season.
Champ Long and Kevin White combined to throw for 281 yards with a touchdown apiece for the Aggies, while Elijah Kennedy caught seven passes for 65 yards and a TD. Defensively,
Tyrek Brown collected a team-high nine tackles for NC A&T.
Next up, the Camels will head back on the road for a CAA matchup at Hampton on September 26. Campbell will then take on North Carolina Central on the road on October 3 before returning home on October 17 for Homecoming, battling Towson at Barker-Lane Stadium.
