Travis Stone joined the Campbell baseball coaching staff in July 2024 as an assistant coach. In his role, Stone will work with the Campbell pitching staff.
“Travis brings a strong track record of winning and development to Buies Creek,” Marx said. “He has familiarity with the style of training that has helped make this program successful, and he has an advanced knowledge of technology and analytics that will ensure Campbell continues to be one of the top pitching development schools in the country. Travis, his wife Jaycey and their daughter Kazzie will be great representatives of our program within the community, and we look forward to welcoming them to the Creek.”
In his second year on staff, Stone developed the pitching staff into one of the best in the league. The Camels clinched the CAA South Division title after posting a conference record 26 league victories. Campbell finished 41-17 overall, tying for the third-most wins in a single season. The Camels led the CAA in wins, era, and saves while also garnering All-American and CAA Pitcher of the Year honors from David Rossow and three All-CAA selections.
Under Stone’s direction, the Camels posted a 4.41 ERA for the 12th lowest in program history and ranked 26th in the nation during the 2026 season. The staff improved its earned run average by 1.40 from his first season. The Camels set a new program record in strikeouts per nine innings (9.80) and held opponents to a .235 batting average for second-best in program history. The staff tallied 549 total strikeouts for third most in a single season.
Year one as Campbell’s pitching coach saw a 25-31 overall record and 15-12 in CAA play. The Camels placed third in the conference standings and made their first appearance in the CAA Baseball Championship. Five Camels were named All-CAA.
Stone developed a pair of 2026 MLB draft picks in David Rossow (Athletics; 7th round, 201st pick) and Camden Wimbish (Dodgers; 17th round, 523rd pick). Rossow was tabbed All-American and CAA Pitcher of the Year after a stellar 2026 season. Rossow rewrote the record books in multiple categories and was just the fifth Camel to reach over 100 strikeouts in a single season.
Prior to Campbell, Stone served on staff at Dallas Baptist University for four seasons. Like Marx, Stone filled multiple roles on both sides of the ball, including Director of Player Development, assistant coach, first base coach and working with the pitching staff.
“My family and I could not be more excited to have this opportunity at Campbell,” Stone said. “Campbell Baseball is a program that I have always admired from a distance, and when Coach Marx reached out to me with an opportunity to be a part of this program, I could not pass that up.”
For three years, Stone worked with and coached RHP Ryan Johnson, a 2024 consensus All-American. Johnson was recently selected by the Los Angeles Angels with the 74
th overall pick of the 2024 MLB Draft. Johnson set school records with 151 strikeouts in a single season and 314 strikeouts over his three-year career.
In the 2023 season, Stone helped the Patriots set the school season-season record for strikeouts with 656. The same year, the team ranked 12
th in the nation in strikeouts per nine innings, reaching a mark of 10.6.
Prior to his time as a coach at DBU, Stone played for the Patriots for three seasons. For two of those seasons, he was coached by former Campbell pitching coach Rick McCarty.
Excluding the 2020 season that was cut short, Stone advanced to the NCAA postseason every year he was in Dallas as a player and coach. The Patriots advanced to Super Regionals in 2021, and they made the Regional Final in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2023.
From 2017-2019, Stone made 45 career appearances for the Patriots, posting a 3-3 record with a 3.99 ERA. In 2017, his 29 appearances out of the pen ranked as the fourth most all-time in the program’s Division I era, dating back to 2004.
Stone began his collegiate career at Stephen F. Austin in 2015, where he made 19 relief appearances. Following 2015, Stone spent his sophomore season at Weatherford College and led the team with six saves.

Stone graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Master of Education degree in Sport Management from DBU. He is joined in Buies Creek by his wife, Jaycey, their daughter, Kazzie, and son, Simeon.
