James Economou begins his second season on the Campbell football staff in 2020.
In his first season in Buies Creek, Economou has helped the Camels to their school record third straight winning campaign. Campbell again tied a school single-season record for wins in 2019, the program’s second as a Big South member, while posting a six game winning streak, another program record. Nine Camels also took Big South postseason honors.
Economou joined the Camels in the spring of 2019 after spending the 2018 season on the Fordham staff as an offensive quality control assistant, where Rams posted the top-ranked passing offense in the Patriot League.
Prior to Fordham, Economou was an offensive line coach for LIU Post from 2015-18, assisting the Pioneers to one of the top offenses in the Northeast 10 Conference. LIU Post produced an undefeated (12-0) regular season and a conference title in 2016, boasting the 10th-ranked offense nationally. The Pioneers went 8-2 in 2017, with the offensive line unit yielding only five sacks on the year.
The Coram, N.Y. native is a former All-American at Southern Connecticut State, also earning all-region and all-conference honors on the offensive line. He was a starter at guard, helping the Owls’ offense to lead the Northeast 10 Conference in scoring and total offense, ranking second in the league in rushing and passing yards per game.
He graduated from Southern Connecticut State in 2010.
Following graduation, Economou signed with the Milwaukee Mustangs of the Arena Football League, also playing for the Cleveland Gladiators in 2012, and the Iowa Barnstormers for the 2013 season.
