Kevin Grek has returned for a second stint in Buies Creek after previously working for the Camels from 2019-21. Grek was promoted to assistant coach ahead of the 2024-25 season after a year as Director of Player Development.  

Between stints in Buies Creek, Grek worked at Bridgewater College (Va.) as the top assistant coach, and head JV and varsity assistant coach at Jordan High School in Durham, N.C.

Campbell went 14-18 in his return season to Campbell, led by second-team all-conference player Anthony Dell’Orso. Dell’Orso led Campbell in scoring (19.5 ppg) and rebounding (6.5 rpg), and had his scoring tick up to 21.9 ppg in league play, the third-most in the CAA.

Campbell’s 23-24 season was highlighted by a pair of home wins against in-state rivals on national TV, beating Elon by 10 and downing UNCW 105-100 in 2OT, an instant classic in Gore Arena that ended with a court storming. 

At Bridgewater, Grek helped guide the Eagles to its first ODAC Quarterfinal appearance in 10 years. He coached two all-conference performers and the league’s Rookie of the Year.

In his first head coaching job, Grek led Jordan High School’s JV squad to a 14-5 record. He also helped the varsity team to an undefeated conference regular season title and an NCHSAA 4A Elite 8 appearance. 
 
During his first go-round with Campbell, Grek helped lead the Camels to a .630 winning percentage (17-10) in 2020-21, marking the program’s highest since the 2009-10 team finished 19-11 (.633).  The Camels reeled off a school Division I era (since ‘77-78) record 9-game win streak to reach the Big South Championship game.
 
Campbell led the Big South Conference – and ranked 10th in the nation – in team field goal percentage in 2020-21.  CU’s 58.5 field goal percentage in the Big South semifinal win at Radford set a school mark for highest team FG% in Big South tournament play.  The Camels made a season-high 67.1 percent of their shots vs. Florida National (12/10), one day after making 60.5 percent vs. New Orleans.  CU hit 62 percent from the floor in an 84-83 loss Dec. 30 at eventual Big South champion Winthrop.
 
In addition, Campbell ranked fourth in the country in points after called timeouts and 25th nationally in 3-point accuracy (.375).
 
In his first year at Campbell, Grek helped oversee the development of Cory Gensler, who was named the 2020 Big South men’s basketball scholar-athlete of the year, and a Camel team that ranked among league leaders in free throw percentage, turnover margin, assists, steals and assist-turnover ratio.
 
He helped guide the Scarlet Raiders to an ECAC title game appearance in 2019 and coached three players who ended their careers with more than 1,000 points.
 
While in Newark, Grek was involved in all phases of the program, including recruiting, daily operations, strength and conditioning, scouting, film breaking, academic monitoring and individual player development.
 
A 2017 cum laude graduate of Kean University with a B.A. in mathematical sciences, Grek was a four-year letter winner and served as captain his final two seasons.  He was named team MVP in 2016 and was a three-time Kean Scholar-Athlete award winner.  Grek also earned a place on the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court in 2016 and 2017.
