Deon Curry is in his fourth year on the Fighting Camel staff as Director of Basketball Operations. A former football and basketball standout at Michigan State, Curry worked in the hospitality management field before entering the collegiate coaching field.
At Campbell, Curry’s daily responsibilities include overseeing the team’s travel arrangements as well as video editing and exchange. In addition, he supervises the team managers and assists in academic supervision as well as game preparation.
Curry is also involved in the summer basketball camp as well as production and distribution of the Campbell Basketball Tip-Off Club newsletter.
A four-year letter winner as a wide receiver at Michigan State, Curry also played for Coach Tom Izzo’s 2006-07 basketball squad that reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Curry earned Academic All-Big Ten honors for football and graduated with a B.A. in hospitality business in 2008.
During his prep career at Detroit Country Day, Curry was listed among the nation’s top 75 wide receivers and earned all-region honors in basketball. He also worked as a locker room assistant for the Detroit Pistons from Oct. 2000-July 2004.
He is the son of Michael Curry, who played 12 seasons in the NBA and is now the head coach at Florida Atlantic University after previously serving as head coach of the Detroit Pistons in 2008-09.
