Adam Surguine is in his fourth season on the Campbell women’s basketball staff and his first as Director of Scouting and Basketball Technology. He was previously the program’s director of player personnel. In his role, Surguine focuses on player development and video scouting.
Surguine helped Fisher make an immediate impact in his first season at Campbell in 2016-17 when the Camels claimed their eighth 20-win campaign in program history. The eight-win improvement from the 2015-16 season was enough to propel Campbell to a berth in the Big South Tournament and the opportunity to host a first-round game in the Women’s Basketball Invitational.
The Camels also claimed the program’s first-ever NCAA statistical championship by holding opponents to a Division I-low 49.6 ppg. Campbell was the only program to finish below the 50-point threshold in 2016-17 after holding 10 opponents to 40 points or fewer.
Campbell earned a first-round bye in the Big South tournament in 2017-18, en route to a 15-15 record. The squad, again fielded an elite defense, allowing 51.9 ppg, which ranked third in all of NCAA Division I.
Surguine spent his first season at Campbell as a special assistant to legendary head coach Wanda Watkins. He assisted in enhancing the program’s social media presence while being involved with academic, administrative, community and travel aspects of the program, which included all phases of pregame preparation.
Surguine joined the Camels staff after one year as the director of women’s basketball operations at Mount St. Mary’s in 2014-15. He coordinated nearly all aspects of the program, including travel, classes, practices, strength & conditioning and community service, for the Northeast Conference quarterfinalists.
Prior to transitioning into his coaching career, Surguine played for his alma mater, Lancaster Bible College, during his freshman and sophomore years. In his junior year, he became a student assistant coach for the Chargers and was heavily involved in practice planning, player development and recruiting for the squad over his final two undergraduate years.
In 2010, Surguine was elevated to a full-time assistant coaching position with the Chargers, taking on additional responsibilities with game and practice filming as well as directing the strength and conditioning program. In addition, Surguine coordinated all non-conference scheduling and travel for the women’s squad.
During the 2013-14 year, Surguine assumed the role of operations manager for the athletic department, overseeing all equipment operations for Lancaster’s 12 intercollegiate programs, assisting with the maintenance and renovation of facilities, the management of student workers, travel and intramurals.
His tenure as an assistant coach at Lancaster saw the Chargers capture a pair of NCCAA East Region championships, a NEAC championship, an NCAA Division III tournament appearance and a fifth-place finish in NCCAA Division II in 2013- 14. In total, Lancaster posted a 74-40 record in his four years, including a 47-12 mark over his final two seasons.
In addition to his duties with the Camels, he has assisted with basketball camps at Maryland, Notre Dame, Towson and West Chester (Pa.).
Surguine completed his MBA from Campbell in December of 2017. He and his wife Amanda reside in Angier and welcomed a son, Otto, in May of 2018.
