Matt Holmes Headshot WSOC 2021

Matthew Holmes

Matthew Holmes joined the Campbell Women’s Soccer staff as Director of Operations in the summer of 2021.  He brings experience on the collegiate and professional level to his role with the Fighting Camel program.

In his role, Holmes will be in charge of daily operations including travel, and serve as academic and compliance liaison with academics, compliance, in addition to various daily administrative tasks.  He will also play a role in student-athlete well-being, sport science analytics, and video editing for coaches to utilize with film analysis.

“I came to Campbell University for many reasons,” said Holmes, a 2016 graduate of Washington State.  “Most importantly, I love being part of a team and the competition of sports. I love how much the women's soccer game is growing and I wanted to be a part of that continued growth. When I visited Campbell, I knew it was the right place for me because of the culture that the staff and players have established. People here are never satisfied and are looking to improve every single day. Go to sleep an expert, wake up a novice.”

Holmes’ previous stops in the game include serving with NWSL Soccer Operations during the 2020 Challenge Cup.  In that role, he scheduled and supervised training sessions, Covid testing, matches and meals, while also working to ensure that the needs of referees were also met.

He spent three seasons serving as soccer video coordinator at Washington State (2016-2018), where he managed all aspects of the team’s soccer video operation.  In addition to filming home and away games, he edited game and practice video, gathered and analyzed data to improve team performance, and created training and highlight videos. He also worked with Match Analysis and InStat systems to analyze performances.

Holmes also served as team administration and community relations intern with Seattle Reign FC in 2016.  In that role, he was involved in daily team needs from meals to directions, hotels and transportation, while also helping organize Reign FC youth camps on and off site.  He also served as visiting team liaison and assisted with game official needs.

“We are thrilled to have Matthew join us,” said Campbell head coach Samar Azem.  “Matt came highly recommended from coaching colleagues, and we knew right away that he was going to be an exceptional addition to our program. Matt is a fantastic person, he’s extremely driven, he has a very high standard for the work he does, and he’s innovative in the ideas he brings to the game.  His experiences being around the game with both the NWSL and significant time with a premier program like Washington State women’s soccer will be invaluable as he assists in turning the next corner as we continue our climb as a championship winning program.  He will have a significant role from daily operations to video analytics and sport science data tracking.”
