Douglas Hunter joined Campbell University Fall 2022, as an Academic Coordinator-Football. Hunter brings over 30 years of intercollegiate athletic experience as a former NCAA Division I and II head women’s volleyball coach and compliance coordinator.
Hunter has served in several roles in the Student-Athlete Support field, working as a member of the Title IX Committee and Director of Intramurals at Mississippi Valley State University. He served as an adjunct instructor in the Human Performance and Sport Science Department at Winston-Salem State University.
The Kingston, Jamaica native boasts more than 40 years of volleyball coaching experience consisting of sixteen years as a head coach at colleges or universities. Mississippi Valley State University, Shaw University, Winston-Salem State University.
Hunter also has served as an assistant coach at Mercy College (1994-95), Saint Augustine's College (1995-2001), and North Carolina Central University (2002-06). While at Saint Augustine, he assisted the Lady Falcons to three CIAA titles in 1997 and 2000-01 and its first NCAA Division II Regional appearance in school history. At NCCU, he helped guide the school to three consecutive Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) championships from 2004-06 and its first appearance in school history in the NCAA Division II Regional in 2004.
During his coaching career, his teams were able to maintain NCAA academic standards including Academic Progress Rate (APR), Graduation Success Rate (GSR) and ensured his player’s Progress Towards Degree (PTD).
Hunter gained his master’s degree in Sports Administration from Mississippi Valley State University, Itta Bena MS in May 2020. He earned his bachelor’s degree in computer information systems from St. Augustine's University, Raleigh NC in 1999. Earned a diploma in Supervisory Management from the University of Technology in Kingston, Jamaica in 1992.
Hunter was recently inducted into the Ardenne High School Alumni Association Sports Hall of Fame (06/30/2023) for his contributions to Sports (Volleyball/Soccer/Track & Field).
Hunter resides in Raleigh, NC with his wife Marilyn.
