Cole Murray joined Campbell as an assistant coach in February 2023.

Murray arrived in Buies Creek after a season as the volunteer assistant at Pepperdine in Malibu, Calif.

During his lone season with Pepperdine in 2022, Murray helped the Waves to a 19-11 record and an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament where they faced No. 4 Stanford in the first round.

Murray worked with six all-West Coast Conference honorees in 2022, including the league’s freshman of the year, Emily Hellmuth.

Prior to his stint in Malibu, Murray coached girls club volleyball at Saddleback Volleyball Club from 2020-22 and was a high school coach at Northwood High School (Irvine, Calif.) from 2017-22. During his time at Northwood, he coached boys club volleyball at Orange Coast Volleyball Club as well.

Murray, originally from Irvine, Calif., played collegiately at Irvine Valley College from 2013-15 where he led the team in kills and kills per set both years as an all-conference first team performer. As a team, the Lasers made it to the semifinals of the state tournament where Murray was named to the all-tournament team.

From there, Murray transferred to play at Loyola Chicago where the Ramblers made the conference semifinals both seasons. In the 2017 MIVA semifinals, Murray tallied a career-best 18 kills.

Murray graduated from Loyola Chicago in 2017 with a degree in communications studies. He later earned his masters of coaching and exercise science from Concordia University Irvine
