Ryan Mason has completed his fourth season as a member of Greg Goral’s staff after being hired in the spring of 2019. He was promoted to Associate Head Coach prior to the 2022 season.

During his time in Buies Creek, Mason has helped the Camels to their first Big South regular season title in 2022, reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 2021 after winning their first Big South Championship, reach the Big South Championship game in 2019, and to a second-place regular season finish in the shortened 2020 season.

In 2022, Mason helped guide the Camels to a 19-11 record, going 14-2 in league play in route to the program’s first regular season conference championship. The Campbell attack was led by middle blocker Melody Paige, who led the Camels in both kills and blocks. Paige posted 162 blocks on the year, good for third in the nation and 59 more than anybody else in the Big South, to earn a spot on first-team all-conference.

Aley Clent finished second in the Big South in total blocks with 103 on the year as Campbell had 62 more blocks than any other Big South school.

As a team, Campbell hit .218 on the year in 2022, the highest single-season mark in program history.

The setters in 2022, another primary area of coaching for Mason, led the Big South with 12.21 assists/set. Emily Mitter and McKenna Sciacca spent most of the year as the 6-2 setters, with Mitter leading the team with 5.71 assists/set.

Mason helped the Camels to a program-record 14 conference wins during the 2021 season and 21 total wins, the third-most in a single season in program history. Campbell won its first Big South Tournament championship on its home court, knocking off High Point in five sets to punch the program’s first ticket to the NCAA Tournament. The Camels faced No. 10 Nebraska in front of a crowd of 7,884, the largest ever for a Campbell match.

Mason works with the Camel attack, primarily with the setters and middles, while also handling scouting and recruiting for the Campbell program. He guided a strong offense in 2020, with Campbell checking in 21st in the nation in kills/set at 13.90.

In 2021 he helped guide a very balanced attack with four players amassing over 200 kills. Campbell was the only team in the Big South to accomplish that.

During his first three seasons, he helped outside hitter Sarah Colla receive three all-Big South honors, as Colla was the first Camel to ever earn all-Big South four times. He has coached three outside hitters to all-conference nods a total of six times at Campbell.

He joined Campbell after serving as a volunteer assistant coach at Clemson for one season.

As a member of the Tigers volleyball staff, Mason helped lead Clemson to a 19-15 record, including a pair of playoff wins in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship. He was the lead coach for defensive scout video sessions and was the positional lead coach for middle blockers and opposite hitters, while also assisting with offensive tempo and schemes.

Away from the court, he assisted the recruiting coordinator with on-campus visits, and he authored and implemented match-serving strategies.

Before his time at Clemson, Mason was an assistant coach at his alma mater Cal State Northridge (CSUN), serving the men’s volleyball program from 2017-18. He guided the Matadors to a 16-11 record in 2018, picking up their first postseason victory in five years.

Mason was a setter for the Matadors from 2010-15, earning a redshirt year in 2011. He appeared in four matches and six sets in 2013, primarily as a serving specialist, and recorded a pair of digs.

A native of Torrance, Calif., Mason had two stints as head coach of the Supernova All-Stars Volleyball Club, leading his squad to a 15-1 record in 2014-15 before a 16-1 mark in 2017-18. He also served as a trainer at the VIBE Volleyball Lab in El Segundo, Calif., from 2017-18.

Mason earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from CSUN in 2015 and received a master’s of coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University of Irvine in 2019.
