Hot Hitting Camels Down Samford 13-4

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Derek Barrows and Josh Cotten each went
4-for-6 to lead Campbell's offensive attack and the Camels out-hit
Samford 21-12 to take game one of the Atlantic Sun Conference
series, 13-4, at Joe Lee Griffin Field Friday night. The Bulldogs
fell to 3-10 and 1-3 in the A-Sun while the Camels improved to 4-10
and 2-5 in the conference.
Barrows also added three RBI. Tom Rispoli went 3-for-6 with
four RBI for the Camels. Sae Evans, Eric Hollis, Richard Bishop and
Kip Snowden each had two hits for Samford. Rob Finch (1-3) picked
up his first win for Campbell. Finch allowed one earned run on nine
hits while striking out two in seven innings. Ehren Wassermann
(1-3) took the loss for Samford. Wassermann gave up four earned
runs in 6 2/3 innings while recording three strikeouts.
Campbell took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second. Cotten
doubled to left center and scored on Kyle Ellenz's single. Barrows,
who reached on an infield single, scored on Jason's Brown's
fielder's choice.
Samford cut its deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the second.
Hollis led off the inning with a single to right center. Michael
Collins singled with one out. After Hollis was caught stealing,
Collins advanced to third on an error by the third baseman and
scored when Snowden was caught stealing at second to end the
inning.
Matt Alling's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the game
scored Bishop, who doubled to lead off the inning, tying the game,
2-2.
The Camels regained the lead, 3-2, on Brown's RBI single in
the top of the fourth. Campbell made it 6-2 in the top seventh on
three hits and two Samford errors.
Rispolli's RBI single in the top of the eighth helped the
Camels to a 9-2 lead. The Camels scored three runs on four hits and
one Samford error.
The Bulldogs cut their deficit to 9-4 in the bottom of the
eighth. Sae Evans, Robert Evans and Hollis each singled to load the
bases with no outs. Heath Owen's sacrifice fly scored Sae Evans to
make it 9-3. Collins hit into a fielder's choice to plate Robert
Evans for Samford's final run.
Campbell capped off the game with a four-run ninth inning.
After Brown and Alston Hatch singled to lead off the inning, Casey
Graham hit Jeff Blick to load the bases. With one out, Rispoli hit
a two-RBI single up the middle to make it 11-4. Barrows' blooper
down the right field line scored Campbell's final two runs.
Alling, Robert Evans, Owen and Collins each had one hit for
Samford. Sal Deanda went 3-fo-6 with three runs scored for Campbell
while Blick, Ellenz and Brown each had two hits.
Samford and Campbell wrap up their series Saturday at 1 p.m.
with a doubleheader at Joe Lee Griffin Field [Box
