DeLAND, FLA. - Julian Fulton's 72nd minute
goal was the equalizer Thursday night when Campbell and Stetson
played to a 1-1 draw in the Atlantic Sun Conference men's soccer
opener for both schools.
Campbell (4-4-1, 0-0-1 A-Sun) extended
its unbeaten string to three matches (2-0-1), while Stetson (1-8-1,
0-0-1) is winless in its last seven (0-6-1).
Stetson took the lead in the 25th minute on Kevin Munz'
header.
Campbell equalized with 19:55 left
when Richard Jata crossed to Fulton, whose header beat Stetson
keeper Alessandro Barcherini for his second goal of the
season.
Stetson finished with a 21-12 edge in shots, but Campbell held a
3-2 advantage during the two, 10-minute overtime
sessions.
Campbell keeper Aaron Johnson made a career-high 12 saves, while
Barcherini finished with five stops for the Hatters.
Thursday's contest was a rematch of last year's Atlantic Sun
Conference Championship final that Stetson claimed 2-1. CU won the
2005 regular season A-Sun crown.
Campbell continues its road trip
Saturday at Mercer in a 7:00 p.m. kick-off. The Bears (2-7-1,
0-1-0) fell to Gardner-Webb 1-0 on Thursday night.
