BUIES CREEK, N.C. –
Jake Roberts, a junior from Huntersville, N.C., has been named as the recipient of the 2025 Glenn Brewster Memorial Award, which is presented annually by the Campbell University men's soccer team.
On Veterans Day, the Fighting Camels remember all who have served and continue to serve in the Armed Forces. Fifty-seven years ago, one of our own, Glenn Brewster, joined the U.S. Army and was sent to Vietnam. The Campbell soccer community remembers Glenn each year when it announces the Glenn Brewster Memorial Award honoree during Veterans Day week.
Since 1970, the Glenn Brewster Memorial Award has been presented to the Campbell men's soccer player who best exemplifies the qualities of leadership and courage displayed by the late Glen Brewster, who played on the 1967 team that was a forerunner to Campbell College's nationally prominent clubs in the late '60s and early '70s. He was later fatally wounded while serving his country in Vietnam.
A 6-foot-1 center back, Roberts was one of two Camels to start all 20 games this season for a squad that was ranked No. 10 in the Atlantic Region. He played all but 37 of a possible 1800 minutes for the Camels, who finished with a 10-6-4 overall record and a 4-2-2 mark in the CAA.
Roberts was on the field for the full 90 in 18 of Campbell's 20 contests. while earning third-team All-CAA honors. He helped lead the Camels to seven shutouts and a 1.30 goals-against average.
Over the last two seasons, no Campbell player has logged more starts (36) or played more minutes (3248) than Roberts. Off the field, Roberts has earned CAA Commissioner's Honor Roll status in each of his four semesters.
"Jake is a deserving recipient of this award," said Campbell head coach
Dustin Fonder, who just completed his 11th season in charge of the program. "He is a caring leader that sets a great example for his teammates. He served as our 2025 team captain and did a tremendous job of keeping the team focused and unified."
Glenn R. Brewster was born on February 26, 1945. He grew up on Mt. Prospect Avenue in Newark, N.J., and had one brother, Robert. Glenn attended Wingate (N.C.) College before transferring to Campbell in 1966, where he was a member of the soccer team.
He served in the U.S. Army and attained the rank of Sergeant (SGT). Brewster was killed in action on March 14, 1970 in Quang Ngai Province, Vietnam. He is buried at Glendale Cemetery in Bloomfield, N.J.
