ROCK HILL, S.C.-
Lauren Caviness threw her
second-career no-hitter and
Amanda Littlejohn blasted
two home runs and drove in six runs leading Campbell to a 12-0
blanking of North Carolina A&T at the Winthrop Invitational
Saturday afternoon.
In the Camels second
game of the day,
Brittany Stanley drove in a
pair of runs and picked up the win in the circle in a 5-2 victory
over UNC Wilmington.
Caviness (6-7), a
junior from Fuquay-Varina, N.C., struck out six batters and didn't
allow a walk in the circle. The only thing keeping her from a
perfect game was an error by the southpaw in the fifth inning. Her
first no-hitter came her freshman season on April 11, 2005 against
Appalachian State.
Megan Paul put the Camels
(15-13-1) up 1-0 in the top of the first with a single scoring
Jessica Huffman, who led
off the game singling and stealing second base. Huffman now has 24
stolen bases on the season in just 28 games ranking her third on
the single-season list.
Littlejohn sent the
first of her two home runs over the fence later in the first
scoring
Courtney Quinn who doubled
in the previous at bat.
Hilary Wheatley extended
the Campbell lead to 4-0 with a single in the third inning scoring
Quinn who led off the inning with a single. The lead swelled to 6-0
in the fourth with Paul's second RBI- single of the game scoring
Huffman and a sacrifice fly from Littlejohn.
The Camels exploded for
six more runs in the sixth inning kick started by a three-run blast
from Littlejohn scoring
Robin Leathers and Quinn.
Huffman plated
Karlie Love with her third
base hit of the game; she finished 3-for-5. Leathers and Cullum
rounded out the scoring with a pair of RBI-singles bringing home
Ashley Jones and
Wheatley.
Adia Dial took the loss
for the Aggies tossing the first three innings allowing four runs,
three earned, on seven hits. Yahamma White entered in relief in the
top of the fourth allowing eight earned runs on eight hits.
Playing for the third
time in the past three days, Campbell jumped out to a 4-0 lead in
the bottom of the first inning against UNC Wilmington (7-11). The
Camels and Seahawks split a doubleheader in Wilmington on
Wednesday.
The Camels four runs in
the top of the first came on just one hit, a two-RBI single from
Stanley. Huffman led off the game with a walk and a stolen base.
She scored on the play as the throw to second sailed into center
field. Seahawk starter White walked four-consecutive batters
plating the Camels second run and setting up Stanley's single.
Huffman scored again in
the second inning coming home on a double off the bat of
Cullum.
Wilmington got on the
board in the fourth with a solo home run from Krista Searle and an
RBI-single from Meghan Murray in the fifth.
Stanley (6-2) scattered
four hits over five innings allowing the two runs for her sixth
victory of the season.
Kelly Weaver tossed the
final two innings for her first save of the season, allowing just
one hit.
Lisa White suffered the
loss lasting just 2/3 of a inning allowing four runs, all earned,
on just one hit but walked five. Brittany Lehrschall tossed the
final 5.1 innings yielding four hits and a run.
The Camels wrap up play
at the Winthrop Invitational Saturday against Elon at noon at
Albany at 4:00.
