ATHENS, Ga.-No. 18
Georgia swept a doubleheader from Campbell 2-0 and 2-1 Wednesday
afternoon at the Georgia Softball Complex. The Camels out-hit
Georgia 5-2 in game one and had runners on base in the seventh
inning of both games.
Megan McAllister had a
pair of sacrifice flies in the nightcap providing all of the
offensive output for the Bulldogs (28-9) who have now won 13 of
their last 14 games.
After McAllister gave
Georgia a 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning of game two, Karlie
Love put the Camels (18-20-1) on the board with an RBI-single to
left scoring Courtney Quinn; Love and Quinn both finished game two
2-for-3 from the plate. McAllister put the Bulldogs up 2-1 with her
second sac fly in the third inning.
Freshman Brittany
Stanley (6-4) suffered the loss for the Camels tossing the final
five innings allowing just one run on five hits while striking out
six. StanleyCampbell starter Kelly Weaver was hit by a line
drive. entered the game in the second inning after
Kate Gaskill (2-2)
tossed a complete game three hitter striking out for the
victory.
In the opener, the
Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on
Melissa Wood's third home run of the season over the left-center
field wall. Wood put Georgia up 2-0 in the fourth scoring Kellie
Middleton on a fielder's choice after the All-American reached on a
walk and stole second and third base.
Campbell had runners on
first and second base three different times in the ball game,
including in the seventh inning. Amanda Littlejohn led off the
seventh with a single and moved to second on an error by the second
baseman; Love reached on a fielder's choice on the play.
Following a pair of
outs, Stephenie Pappas singled to leftfield but Ashley Jones was
thrown out at third base on the play before pinch runner Robin
Leathers was able to score.
Lauren Caviness (9-10)
suffered the loss for the Camels despite allowing only two hits and
one walk. Christie Hamilton (8-3) picked up the win scattering five
hits while striking out six.
Campbell returns to
conference play on Friday against Belmont beginning at 4:00 pm at
the Eakes Athletic Complex.
