DURHAM, N.C. The Campbell University baseball team defeated
the Eagles of North Carolina Central on Wednesday at the Durham
Bulls Athletic Park by a score of 15-1. The win improves Campbell's overall
record to 9-6 and ends a five game losing streak. NC Central drops to 3-6 on the
season.
Parker Fleming got the call on the hill for the Camels. The freshman from Lexington, S.C.
pitched five strong innings for Campbell and was credited with the
win. Fleming, who now sits
1-0 on the season, scattered eight hits over his five innings,
allowing just one run to score, while fanning six batters.
Ryan Hamme (Wilmington, N.C.), Brian Gana (Richland, Wash.), Ellis
Lowe (San Diego, Calif.) and Kevin Nelson (Sunrise, Fla.) all had a
productive day at the dish.
Hamme, Gana, and Nelson finished the day batting 2-of-4, while
combining for five RBI and five runs scored. Brian Gana hit his first home run of
the season. Gana's two run
bomb cleared the blue monster in left field at the DBAP. Lowe finished the day 2-of-5,
with four RBI and two runs scored.
Jeff Hoffman (Ramsey, N.J.), Richard Gaito (Cliffside Park, N.J.),
Ethan Meiggs (Camden, N.C.), and Dan Gardo (West Chester, Pa.)
finished duties on the mound for Campbell. All four Campbell hurlers pitched one
complete inning. The
quartet scattered three hits over the four innings, allowing no
runs and striking out three batters.
Campbell stole five bases against the Eagles to run their season
total to 42 (on 53 attempts). Kevin Nelson stole two bases, while
Ellis Lowe, Zach Johnson, and Graham Fronk each stole one.
Douglas Dalley was credited with the loss after pitching just four
innings, allowing six runs on just seven hits. Dalley's record now sits at (0-3) on
the season. NCCU was paced
at the plate by Akeem Hood, who finished the day 4-of-5 and scored
the Eagles only run.
Campbell will return to action this weekend as they host conference
foe Mercer. First pitch on
Friday at Taylor Field is slated for 4 p.m., while Saturday's
doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
