Baseball Drops to High Point, 9-6

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Campbell University baseball team dropped Tuesday's game to High Point at Taylor Field by a score of 9-6. With the loss Campbell drops to 14-14 on the season, while High Point improves to 11-16 on the season.

Campbell found itself tied with High Point after two complete innings, but the Camels would fail to tie the game or gain the lead over the final seven innings.

Campbell got the game started with a Chris Bangi (Jacksonville, Fla.) walk. Bangi would steal second and third base and would score when Ellis Lowe (San Diego, Calif.) grounded out to the second baseman.

Campbell would tie the game at two all in the second when Carlton Floyd (Riegelwood, N.C.) came in to score thanks to a Chris Bangi single through the right side.

High Point would answer right away in the top of the third inning. The Panthers would post two runs thanks to Billy Alvino's two-run home run to left field.

Campbell would cut the deficit to one run when Carlton Floyd scored on D.J. Johnson's (Winston-Salem, N.C.) sacrifice fly. The 4-3 deficit would be the closest the Camels would get in the game.

High Point posted two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, while Campbell managed just one run in the fifth and sixth innings. High Point would push another run across in the top of the seventh inning to extend their lead to 9-5.

Campbell would attempt to rally in the bottom of the eighth inning. After Carlton Floyd scored to cut the deficit to 9-6, the Camels had base runners on first and second. The Camels would fail to push those runners across as the Camels had three straight outs.

Carlton Floyd paced the Camels at the plate on Tuesday night. Floyd finished 3-of-4 at the plate with three runs scored. D.J. Johnson also had a strong performance at the dish. Johnson finished 2-of-2 with three RBI.

Parker Fleming (Lexington, S.C.) got the start on the bump for the Camels and would be credited with the loss. Fleming (1-1) pitched three innings allowing four runs on eight hits.

Campbell would use Jonathon Lopez (Vineland, N.J.), Jeff Hoffman (Ramsey, N.J.), Jeff Rydman (Gladstone, Mo.), Richie Gaito (Cliffside Park, N.J.) and Dan Gardo (West Chester, Pa.) to close out the game.

Jonathon Lopez would pitch two complete innings allowing two hits while two runs came in to score (one earned). Jeff Hoffman would come in next and pitch 0.2 innings allowing two runs on three hits.

Jeff Rydman pitched 1.1 innings allowing three hits while one unearned run came in to score. Richie Gaito and Dan Gardo would pitch the final two innings allowing no runs and no hits.

Campbell will return to action on Thursday at Taylor Field. The Camels will entertain the Bruins of Belmont in doubleheader action on Thursday at 4 p.m., with a single game on Friday beginning at 2 p.m.
