GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Four Fighting Camels registered multiple RBI as
Campbell rolled to a 15-5 victory over North Carolina A&T on
Friday afternoon at War Memorial Stadium. Bryan Braswell knocked
in three runners; Kevin Nelson, Ellis
Lowe, and Zach Johnson all notched two
RBI in the winning effort.
The scoring started
in the second inning with a two RBI single into left field that
scored Bryce Grady and Alex
Aycoth. Kevin Nelson would notch his
first hit and RBI of the contest with a single into right field
that scored Braswell.
North Carolina
A&T (1-3) responded in the first with a run of their own as
George Hines would cross the plate following a balk call on
Campbell starting pitcher Logan Davis.
In the fourth
Campbell (3-2) extended their lead to 8-1 in the top half of the
inning starting with Bryce Grady scoring on an
error by Xavier Macklin, then a Kevin Nelson double down the
right field line scored Bryan Braswell.
Nelson crossed the plate himself on a passed ball and Chris
Bangi came around to score off of an error by Nick Oelker, the
starting pitcher for North Carolina A&T. Ellis Lowe rounded
out the scoring as he brought around DJ Johnson on a sacrifice
groundout to short.
It was a homerun fest
in the bottom half of the inning for A&T as Marquis Riley and
Alex Grubb sent shots to right field that brought around three
runners to close the gap to 8-4. In the bottom of the fifth North
Carolina A&T would add another home run as Dario Little sent a
round tripper to the same area that Riley and Grubb sent their
respective home runs to.
Campbell was able to
shut down the A&T power attack from that point on as the
Fighting Camels allowed only two hits in the remaining four
frames.
While the defense was
busy shutting down A&T the offense was just getting started up
as the Camels would score three in the seventh, two in the eighth
and two in the ninth to round out the Campbell scoring for the
afternoon. Those innings were highlighted by a Zach
Johnson two run shot to right center field in the seventh, a Josh
Holskey RBI single to right field in the eighth and a Logan Self RBI double
to right center field in the ninth.
Logan
Davis started the game on the mound for Campbell and went 4.1
innings while giving up five runs, four of them being earned off of
six hits while registering his second victory on the young season
(2-0). Corey
Carver came in relief of Davis and pitched a gem going 2.2
innings and no hitting the Aggies while striking out three.
Nick Oelker was the
starter for A&T was lasted four innings while giving up eight
runs, six of which were earned, and seven hits. He registered the
loss for the Aggies and is now 0-2 on the 2010 campaign.
These two teams will
