JACKSONVILLE, FLA. -- Ellis Lowe slammed a home run to left field
and the go ahead run was represented at the plate but Campbell's
rally fell just short as the Camels lost to North Florida by a 7-5
score.
Campbell (15-8, 3-4
A-Sun) fell behind early as UNF scored four runs off of four hits
in the first inning. Andrew Karmeris started the scoring off for
the Ospreys as he sent a first pitch offering from Campbell starter
Frank Zier through the left side to register the RBI single that
scored Andrew Hannon. The scoring continued with a pair of
sacrifice flies by TJ Thompson and Robbie Collier that pushed the
UNF lead to 3-0. Later Ryan Roberson slapped a single to right
center to bring home the fourth run of the inning.
North Florida (13-11,
3-1 A-Sun) gave up two runs in the second to Campbell hitting as DJ
Johnson sent a RBI single through the left side that scored Kevin
Nelson. Ellis Lowe registered his first hit and RBI as he doubled
to left center that brought around DJ Johnson, the play could have
scored Chris Bangi but he was thrown out at the plate.
The scoring continued
for UNF as Andrew Karmeris sent a double to right field to register
his second RBI of the night and push the score to 5-2.
Campbell starter
Frank Zier and UNF starter George Lott both settled in and allowed
no runs in the third, fourth or fifth inning.
In the sixth the
Fighting Camels were able to inch closer as they scored two runs
off of Alex Aycoth scoring on a wild pitch from Lott and Kevin
Nelson sending a sacrifice fly to center field to register his only
RBI of the contest.
With a 5-4 lead in
hand the Ospreys answered in the bottom half of the sixth with two
runs of their own off of a Michael Smith two run round tripper that
was sent to right field.
After a scoreless
seventh and eighth Campbell mounted a comeback in the ninth. With
one out in the inning Ellis Lowe slammed a home run to left field
to draw within two runs at 7-5. After Alan Denman struck out
looking to register the second out, Alex Aycoth doubled down the
right field line to keep the inning going. Zach Johnson followed
with a single to left field that advanced Aycoth to third base.
With runners at the corners and two outs, North Florida reliever
Tommy Organ was able to get out of the contest and register the
save by getting catcher Ben Fish to fly out to center field.
Campbell starter
Frank Zier recovered from a rough start and ended up going eight
innings, giving up seven runs off of 11 hits. The sophomore was
dealt the loss and moves to 3-3 on the year.
George Lott was dealt
the win as the starter for the Ospreys went six innings and gave up
just four runs off of eight hits. The righty moves to 3-0 on the
season.
These two will
complete the series on Saturday afternoon with a 1:00 p.m. first
