BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Jacksonville scored 24 points in 5:39 stretch in the third quarter and went on to defeat Campbell 52-45 Saturday at Barker-Lane Stadium.

Campbell (1-6, 0-4 PFL) took the lead on the first play of the third quarter when quarterback Brian Hudson ran 80 yards on a read-option keeper to give the Camels a 31-28 lead.

Jacksonville (3-4, 2-2) took the following kick-off and drove 84 yards on 11 plays.  Dylan Lynch's 30-yard field goal tied the score at 31 to start the decisive stretch.

After a Campbell 3-and-out, D'Andre Randle ran 84 yards on the first play to put CU ahead for good (38-31).  Two plays later Hudson fumbled and Schon Thomas recovered to give JU the ball at the Campbell 26.

Orlando Thomas ran 21 yards to give JU 1st-and-goal; then carried in the final 5 yards for a 45-31 lead with 7:26 left.  Another Campbell punt gave the ball back to the Dolphins and Bell hit Randle on a 32-yard scoring catch with 4:57 to go in the third and JU led 52-31.

Ben Bolling connected with Kurt Odom on a 30-yard end-around pass to trim the JU lead to 52-38 with 13:00 remaining in the fourth.  Odom then took a Hudson pass on an underneath pattern on 4th-down and-16 for a 50-yard scamper down the right sideline to pull the Camels within 52-45 with 2:03 to play.

However, the Camels were flagged for illegal touching on the on-side kick and the Dolphins were able to run out the clock.

Jacksonville finished with a 565-446 edge in total offense and ran 79 plays to 73 for the Camels, who set a school modern era record for most points scored in a loss.

Campbell entered the game ranked second nationally in rushing yards per game (285.5), but finished with 189 on the round on 43 attempts (4.4 per attempt).  The Camels were 7-of-17 in third-down conversions and made both of their fourth-down attempts.  JU converted 6-of-14 third-down chances.

Hudson ran for 110 yards on 22 carries and threw for 227 and a score while completing 14-of-29 passes, but was sacked five times.  Odom hauled in 4 passes for 117 yards and two scores, while Jabri Ridenhour caught three balls for 96 yards.  Odom also finished with 40 yards on the ground.

Bell completed 17 passes in 33 attempts with two interceptions for 251 yards and four TDs.  Ulysses Bryant led JU with 120 rushing yards on 17 carries.  Andrew Robustelli had 4 receptions for 41 yards.

Jake Barr led the Camels with 12 tackles and Matt Farris added 9.  Andre Addison and Maroa White had 9 stops apiece for the Dolphins.

Campbell, which lost each of the first five games in the series to the Dolphins, scored first when Alan Hart's interception gave the Camels a first down at their own 45.

Hudson's 22-yard completion to Kurt Odom was the big play in a 9-play, 55-yard drive capped by Hudson's 6-yard rushing score with 10:10 left in the opening quarter.

The Dolphins answered with a 57-yard drive that took just 2:16 to complete.  Kade Bell hit Andrew Robustelli on a 16-yard scoring catch and Dylan Lynch's PAT evened the score at 7-all.

Lynch's 79-yard punt pinned the Camels back at their own 1 yard line, but Hudson connected with Jabri Ridenhour on a 70-yard toss on the first play.  Nine plays later, Hudson ran the final 3 yards for the longest offensive drive in Campbell's Division I era (since 2008) and the Camels led 14-7 with 14:22 remaining in the second.  The previous school record for longest scoring drive was a 96-yard stretch in 2011 at Valparaiso.

JU again scored quickly on a 7-play, 69-yard drive with only 1:36 elapsed on the clock as Bell found Robustelli open in the end zone from 8 yards out.  Lynch's point after tied the score with 12:41 to play in the half.

Brandon Mobley's 36-yard interception return again put the Camels in front with 8:54 left in the half.  The pick-six was Campbell's first since Brandon Chandler's interception return for a score on Oct. 15, 2011 in a Camel win at Marist.

Campbell was penalized for excessive celebration following the score and JU started the ensuing drive at its own 47-yard line.  Eight plays later, Bell hit Yeovanti Williams with a 10-yard scoring hook-up to tie the score at 21.

After a Camel 3-and-out, the Dolphins took just 2:02 to drive 74 yards and took the lead (28-21) on Johnnie Hicks' 3-yard run with just 1:40 left in the half.  However, the Camels answered with a 51-yard drive and pulled within 28-24 on Jarrett Ozimek's 30-yard field goal on the last play of the second quarter.

Campbell returns to action next Saturday (Oct. 26) when it hosts Mercer in a 4:00 p.m. Homecoming Day kick-off.
