GREENVILLE, N.C. – Ian Townsend knocked in three on three hits, including two doubles to lead East Carolina past Campbell 8-3 Tuesday night at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
Travis Watkins also added three RBI for ECU (3-1), who gathered 14 hits as a unit. Townsend went 3-for-5 on the night, while Watkins posted a 2-for-4 effort in the win for the Pirates.
Kyle Leady and Clayton Brown each drove in one on a pair of hits for Campbell (3-1).
The Camels took the early 2-0 lead in the first, scoring a pair on Leady and Will Albertson RBI base hits.
ECU answered with four tallies in the bottom of the inning on four hits, aided by a pair of Campbell errors.
Pirates added another in the second and third to make it 6-2 on Townsend and Kirk Morgan RBI, before Clayton Brown's RBI single tallied a run for the Camels.
In the bottom of the inning, Watkins' single up the middle with the bases loaded plated two more to give ECU an 8-3 advantage.
CU starter Bobby Thorson (0-1) allowed eight runs, seven earned, on nine hits with two walks in 3 2/3 innings. Ryan Koopman tossed a scoreless 4 1/3, fanning six with five hits and a walk for the Camels.
Davis Kirkpatrick (1-0) pitched five innings with three runs, two earned, on five hits with five strikeouts. Nick Durazo pitched three innings in relief, scattering four hits with three strikeouts. Drew Reynolds fanned one in the game's final frame.
After reaching on an error in the first, Campbell freshman Danny Pardo has reached base safely to leadoff each of the Camels' four games this season.
The Camels return home to host the Campbell Invitational this weekend, Friday through Sunday, Feb. 21-23. The three-team tournament will also feature Manhattan and Delaware and will feature two games a day at Jim Perry Stadium.
