BUIES CREEK, N.C. – William and Mary used 24 hits to top Campbell 19-7 in the series finale Sunday at Jim Perry Stadium and take the weekend set. The series loss is the first for Campbell this season, and just the second in the last two years.
The teams split Saturday's doubleheader, with William and Mary (9-5) taking the opener 7-6 and Campbell (11-5) claiming the nightcap 2-1.
Nick Thompson paced the Tribe with five hits, knocking in four and scoring three times, while Tim Hoehn plated three on a 4-for-4 day, including a triple and a double, with three runs scored. Charley Gould also picked up four hits on the afternoon while Michael Katz scored three times.
Mitchell Aker (2-1) earned the win for the Tribe, allowing three runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and a walk in six innings. J.T. Castner also allowed four runs on three hits with a walk in 1/3 of an inning.
Daniel Powers and Aaron Fernandez combined for a scoreless 2 2/3 for William and Mary.
Campbell's Andrew Witczak (1-1) was saddled with the loss, going 1 2/3 innings with six runs, five earned, on seven hits with a strikeout.
Curtis Linthicum pitched two innings with three hits, two strikeouts and a walk in relief, and Travis Long tossed a scoreless ninth with a hit and a walk for the Camels.
The Tribe jumped out to a 14-1 lead before Matt Nadolski's two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth. The home run was the senior's first of the season.
CU posted another four tallies in the seventh, with Will Albertson, Aaron Vogt, Kyle Prats and Clayton Brown all driving in runs
Brown, Steven Leonard and Sam Rector all gathered two hits apiece for the Camels in the loss.
Campbell will host Ball State in a two-game midweek set March 11-12. The Camels open Big South play at Liberty on March 14.
