BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Matt Parrish knocked in three runs on two of Campbell's 10 hits on the day to down UNC Asheville 9-3 Saturday at Jim Perry Stadium and clinch the Big South series.
Campbell improved to 24-12 overall and 10-4 in Big South games with the win, while Asheville sinks to 11-25 on the year and 4-10 in conference play.
Campbell took game one Friday 7-1 behind a career-high 13 strikeouts from Heath Bowers.
Sam Rector also picked up two hits for the Camels, driving in one in CU's four-run first inning.
Seth LaRue's RBI groundout scored Danny Pardo for the team's first run after an Asheville error loaded the bases in the bottom of the first. Parrish, a sophomore from Angier, N.C., then doubled to bring home two more.
Asheville tallied runs in the second and the eighth on RBI from Erik Connolly and Tommy Houmard before Campbell exploded for five more runs in the bottom of the eighth.
Parrish drove in his third run of the day on a sacrifice fly, while John Reilly singled in another. Three more CU runs scored on Asheville errors, making it 9-2 heading into the ninth.
Connolly knocked in another run for the Bulldogs in their final at-bat, driving in Phillip Treadway, who reached on an error.
Hector Cedano (4-0) earned the win, going 7 1/3 with two runs on four hits, two strikeouts and two walks.
Ryan Thompson picked up his ninth save for his 19th in two seasons, tying the Campbell all-time record, shared with J.T. Thomas (1995-98). Thompson allowed one unearned run on a hit with two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings.
Asheville's (1-5) Joe Zayatz was charged with the loss, going seven innings with four unearned runs, five hits, two strikeouts and a walk.
Scott Robinson surrendered four runs, three earned, on five hits in an inning. Nick Schavone also allowed a run in the loss.
Rector joined Parrish with two hits, with Matt Nadolski scoring twice.
Erik Connolly drove in two runs for the Bulldogs, while Tanner Bush went 2-for-3.
The Camels and Bulldogs will conclude their three-game series Sunday at 2 p.m.
After the weekend series, the Camels will head on the road for their next six outings, including a three-game set at Radford April 17-19. Campbell will also travel to North Carolina A&T (April 15), North Carolina State (April 22) and Virginia Tech (April 23).
