ELON, N.C. – Danny Lynch went 3-for-4 with a RBI and six Elon pitchers limited Campbell to four hits to help the Phoenix to a 2-1 win Wednesday night at Latham Park.
Elon improved to 19-10 with its fifth win in a row, while Campbell falls to 19-11 on the season.
The Phoenix posted back to back singles to lead off the bottom of the second, and Ryan Cooper singled in Blaine Bower to give the Phoenix a 1-0 lead.
Elon loaded the bases with one out in the fifth when Danny Lynch's infield single scored one to make it 2-0 Phoenix.
After leaving the bases loaded in the seventh, Danny Pardo was hit by a pitch to lead off the eighth for the Camels. With two away in the inning and the freshman standing on second, Elijah Trail belted one to deep center for a RBI double and put Campbell on the board.
The Camels put a runner on in the ninth with Brooks Borders' infield single, but he would not come around.
Tyler Manez (1-3) tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings for Elon in the win, allowing two hits with a strikeout and a walk in the start. Ryan Pennell gathered his eighth save with a one-hit ninth.
Brandon Kacer, Jacob Baker and Grant Fisher combined for the next 1 1/3 without allowing a Campbell hit. Matt Harris allowed a run on a hit for the Phoenix.
Campbell starter Matt Nadolski (0-1) pitched 2 1/3 in the loss, allowing a run on four hits with four strikeouts and two walks. Coley Thompkins pitched 1 2/3, allowing a run on two hits with a strikeout and a walk.
Bobby Thorson allowed four hits in 3 2/3, striking out and walking four, while John Allen retired his only batter in the eighth.
Casey Jones also picked up two hits for the Phoenix in the win, who stranded 15 baserunners for the game.
Campbell left seven men on, with six combined coming in the six, seventh and eighth.
The Camels return to Jim Perry Stadium to host Presbyterian on ESPN3 Friday at 7 p.m. in the first of a three game Big South series. The set continues Saturday and Sunday with 4 p.m. and 2 p.m. starts, respectively.
Saturday and Sunday's games will be a part of Campbell's Camels for a Cure event to raise funds benefitting the Harnett Health Foundation. Fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness.
