BLACKSBURG, VA. – Trailing 9-3 heading into the eighth, Campbell rallied for 11 unanswered runs, including five in the 10th inning to win in come from behind fashion at Virginia Tech Wednesday night.
Campbell improved to 28-14 on the season with its second win over an ACC opponent in two days, while Virginia Tech falls to 18-22-1 overall.
The Camels scored three in the eighth on Elijah Trail's bases-clearing triple to the gap in right-center, bringing CU within three at 9-6.
Campbell again loaded the bases in the ninth when Steven Leonard moved the Camels station to station, plating a run. John Reilly then scored on a Matt Nadolski groundout, and CU tied it up when Danny Pardo scored on a wild pitch, making it 9-9.
After a scoreless bottom of the ninth, Campbell opened the 10th with six hits wrapped around one out, the second being a RBI bunt single from Kyle Prats to put the Camels on top 10-9.
Two batters later, John Reilly singled again on a RBI bunt, bringing Prats around. Pardo followed with a RBI base hit and Steven Leonard tacked on two more with a single to center, making it 14-9 Camels on 11 unanswered runs.
Bobby Thorson held the Hokies in the bottom of the 10th to secure the win, striking out one.
James Darcy (1-0) picked up the relief win, pitching two scoreless innings with three strikeouts and a walk.
Aaron McGarity (0-3) took the loss for VT, allowing a run on two hits in an inning.
Campbell led 3-0 after the first. Danny Pardo led off the game with a base hit to left and Steven Leonard reached on a hit by pitch, Matt Nadolski tripled off the wall in center to score the pair and Matt Parrish added a third with a sacrifice fly to right.
The Hokies answered with a run in the third, with a Mark Zagunis sacrifice fly scoring Logan Bible, the first of five-straight innings with a run for Virginia Tech.
Bible and Saige Jenco knocked in runs in a 2-run seventh for the Hokies, capping off the VT scoring, who also scored three in the sixth.
Leonard, Nadolski and Trail each drove in three for the Camels in the win, with Leonard going 4-for-5 and Trail picking up two hits, a triple and a double.
Pardo went 3-for-5 with a RBI and scored three times. Reilly also scored three runs in the game, going 2-for-3 and adding a RBI. Will Albertson was 2-for-2, scoring twice.
Bible paced the Hokies with a 3-for-3 night, driving in and scoring three times with two walks. Jenco also drove in two, while Phil Sciretta scored two times.
Campbell starter Hector Cedano pitched three innings, allowing a pair of runs on four hits with three strikeouts and a walk.
Kit Scheetz, the VT starter, allowed three runs on seven hits with three strikeouts.
After a week break for exams, the Camels will return to Jim Perry Stadium, hosting North Carolina A&T on April 30 at 6 p.m. Campbell will welcome Gardner-Webb on Friday, May 2, beginning a three-game Big South series. Friday's opener will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
