Datashvili finishes third at the Wake Forest Fall Invite

Winston-Salem, North Carolina – The Men's Tennis team participated at the 2015 Wake Forest Fall Invite over the weekend. Giorgi Datashvili finished third in the D2 Singles flight going 3-1 against his opponents while Lukas Schaefer & Jonathan O'Neal and Lorenz Schwab & Louis Monterosso finished second in the B3 and C2 Doubles flights, respectively.

Datashvili defeated his first two opponents in two sets on Friday, Nov. 6, wrapping up the first day of the WFU Fall Invite. He went 6-1, 6-0 against Alex Howard from Davidson for his first win and followed by downing Will Bissett from East Carolina 6-3, 7-6 (5) in the quarterfinals round for his second of the event. On the second day of the invite, Datashvili faced Rafael Ribas from Virginia Tech who delivered the Camel his first loss (6-2, 6-1) of the tournament.

Datashvili had to face Krishna Jana from the Naval Academy to determine who would take third place in the tournament. The Camel managed to sink the Midshipman in three sets, 7-5, 4-6, 10-7.

Schaefer and O'Neal started off doubles action for the Camels as they faced the Meparidize/Mikrovas duo from NC State. The Campbell pair held off the Wolfpack players winning the set 8-7 (3) as they moved to the semifinals round of the B3 Doubles flight.

Schaefer and O'Neal went up against Countee and Bissiett from ECU and defeated them 8-3 to advance to the finals bout where they faced Hussery and Koeke from Georgia State. The Panthers pair downed the Camels combo winning the set 8-2 resulting in the Camels second place finish.

Schwab and Monterosso also finished well for the Camels in doubles action. They moved onto the semifinals round after receiving a first-round bye. The pair faced Thoen and Taylor from Radford and defeated the duo 8-5 progressing to the championship bout. Schwab and Monterosso paired up against Pompan and Lahlou from the University of Pennsylvania in the championship match and fell to the Quakers 8-0 claiming the second place finish.

Schaefer went 0-3 in singles action of Flight A1. Schwab finished the B2 Singles flight 2-2 for a sixth place overall. Gerard Sola ended the weekend 1-2 in the C1 singles flight while O'Neal finished 1-3 in the C2 Singles flight. Monterosso also finished 1-3 in his flight to the Camels conclude singles action for the tournament. Sola and Datashvili finished the weekend 1-2 in the B1 doubles flight to claim seventh in the bracket.
